What is the Skin Classic and what does it treat?

The Skin Classic, at Lorna's Heavenly Skin Studio in Scottsdale, is an an award winning laser alternative for common skin issues such as skin tags, broken capillaries, cherry angiomas, keratosis, milia, sebaceous hyperplasia, hyperpigmentation, and Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra, also known as DPN or Morgan Freeman spots.

The Skin Classic utilizes a lamprobe to transmit an electric current to effectively vaporize and dehydrate the skin irregularity with little downtime and no damage to surrounding tissue. Without breaking the surface of the skin, the Skin Classic can quickly and effectively fade or diminish spots and imperfections that do not readily respond to other treatments.

Skin Classic treatments are quick, virtually painless, and work strictly on the epidermis to address common skin irregularities as the skin ages.

Telangiectasis (Broken Capillaries)

Broken capillaries are small dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin or mucus membranes. They can develop anywhere on the body but are commonly seen on the face around the nose, cheeks, chin, and chest. They can be caused by environmental damage such as sun or cold exposure and may increase as we age.

Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra

Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra, also known as DPN, or Morgan Freeman spots, is characterized by small brown or black spots that are on the skin around the cheekbones and eyes. The dark spots may also be found on other areas of the face, neck, chest and back. Some people with Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra have a few, isolated spots while others have many. The spots may be flat or hang off the skin like a skin tag.

Skin Tags

A skin tag is a small benign tumor that primarily forms in areas where the skin creases, such as the neck, armpit, and groin. Sometimes they may also appear on the eyelids or other areas of the face. These are harmless and typically painless, and do not grow or change over time. Skin tags can be large, sometimes up to a half inch long, but are most commonly about the size of a grain of rice.

Cherry Angiomas

Cherry Angiomas are small clusters of capillaries at the surface of the skin that form a small round dome which is often flat topped. The color typically ranges from bright red to purple. When they first begin to appear, they are almost flat and appear as small red dots. These dots can grow over time up to a centimeter or more in some cases. Larger cherry angiomas may be thick and raised. These are found in various areas of the face and body.

Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Sebaceous Hyperplasia is a disorder of the oil glands and is a common, benign condition most commonly found in adults of middle age or older. These lesions can be single or multiple and appear as a yellow, soft, small papule on the face. They are round and the oil surrounds the pore giving it a "donut-like" appearance. Typically these occur on the nose, cheeks, and forehead.

Seborrheic Keratosis

Seborrheic keratosis is a common skin condition characterized by the presence of raised bumps with a waxy or scaly texture. They can appear round or oval, ranging from very small to more than an inch in size. These growths can appear in various colors, ranging from light tan to black, and have been often described as having a stuck on appearance. Seborrheic keratoses are commonly found on the face, chest, shoulders, and back.

Milia

Milia are harmless, small, white to yellow bumps that are caused by trapped keratin filled cysts under the skin. They often appear on the face, particularly around the eyes, nose, and cheeks. Your body sheds dead skin cells to make way for fresh new ones. Milia happen when the dead skin cells don’t fall away. Instead, they get caught under the new skin and harden.

What To Expect After Treatment

Immediate Appearance

After the procedure, it is common for the treated areas to exhibit some redness. The redness is a natural response to the treatment and typically subsides within a few hours to a couple of days. Some individuals

may also experience a mild stinging or tingling sensation immediately after the treatment. This discomfort is temporary and usually fades quickly.

Formation of Crusts

The treated irregularities dehydrate and form a crust like layer. This is a part of the healing process. These crusts are temporary and will naturally shed within 5-14 days. It is crucial not to pick or scratch them, as doing so can lead to scarring. Keep them moisturized, but dry, and allow the crusts to shed on their own. The crusts are natures band aid.

Post Treatment Care

Proper skin care is vital during the recovery phase. Using a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and, most importantly, SPF with zinc is recommended. Until the crusts have completely fallen off, it is best to stick to a simple skin care routine. You will receive a complimentary sample of cleanser and after care cream. Cleanse with your fingertips and pat the area dry. Do not rub your face dry with a towel. This may cause the crusts to come off too early and may cause scarring. Also do not use any scrubs at this time until all the crusts have healed.

Avoiding Other Procedures

Avoiding other skin procedures in the treated areas for at least 30 days post-treatment is recommended. This ensures the skin has ample time to heal without interference.
